Union High School

Herby Arnott House

Herby Arnott House, the senior girls hostel, is nestled below the mountain with a magnificent view of the school sports fields. It was built in 1950 and was named after the headmaster at the time.

The hostel is home to 110 girls with the Juniors (grade 5-7) accommodated downstairs with their own dedicated matron. The seniors are accommodated upstairs in double rooms with the Grade 12 girls having the privilege of single rooms. Various recreational areas provide entertainment for the different age groups. Nutritious meals are provided by an in-house matron and served in a large dining hall.

Pastoral care and mentoring of the girls plays a big part in the daily hostel life. Formal prep in various prep rooms is supervised every evening and the girls also have easy access to the school’s media centre. Piano rooms provide opportunity for music pupils to practice in their own time.
