The 45th annual Biathlon SA Championship was held in Gqeberha this past weekend, 1 and 2 April.
Ben and his dad Grant at the recent Biathlon SA Championships.
This year’s event enjoyed record attendance, with over 800 biathletes participating.
Union High School Grade 8 learner, ๐๐ฒ๐ป ๐๐ฒ๐บ๐ธ๐ฒ, was selected to represent EP Biathlon and he participated with pride. There was tough competition out there, with strong teams from the likes of Free State, Border, North West and, reigning champions, Western Province, to name but a few.
โข Benโs dad, Grant, also competed, coming second in his run in his age category, and knocking four seconds off his swim to make it his best biathlon yet.
All in all it was a wonderful event, confirming once again that, aside from competing against the clock, making friends and renewing friendships is also an important part of what Biathlon stands for.
Biathlon is a multisport discipline that involves running and swimming over various distances for the different age groups.
The next season kicks off in September 2022. Anyone interested in becoming involved in biathlon, or who just want to get a feel for what the sport is like, can contact Claire Lemke at 076 965 5914 to find out more.

The three courts will each go through a two-phase process that involves an aggressive repair of the existing court structure – such as the removal and repair of old delaminated court material – followed by the application of a multi-layer paint system. The process will restore the three courtsโ playability factors and vastly improve their appearance.
(The tennis practice walls and perimeter fencing are also receiving some much needed TLC.)
The educators at the Union Schools hit the ground running this term!
Not only did they welcome and settle their learners for the new term, but they also attended a ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐น and ๐ถ๐ป๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐๐ฒ Keller Education session hosted by Gavin Keller, executive director of Keller Education on Monday afternoon.
Union Pre-School, Graaff-Reinet‘s staff attended a session on ‘๐๐ข๐ฌ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ ๐๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ด๐ฆ ๐ฐ๐ง ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ณ ๐๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ด๐ฆ๐ด’ – understanding and embedding the sensory motor programme.
The first 48 months of formal schooling will determine the future experience. Let’s understand how classroom management can change it all!
Union High School, Graaff-Reinet‘s session was entitled ‘๐๐ฆ๐ค๐ณ๐ฆ๐ต๐ด ๐ฐ๐ง ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐๐ธ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ข๐จ๐ฆ ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ข๐จ๐ฆ ๐๐ณ๐ข๐ช๐ฏ’ – are we preparing our learners for the dramatic changes they will experience during this season of their lives?
Union extends its ๐๐ฅ๐๐ง๐๐๐จ๐ ๐ง๐๐๐ก๐๐ฆ to all the educators who so willingly gave of their time to attend these sessions, as well as to Gavin Keller, for making the trip down from Cape Town to ๐ถ๐ป๐๐ฝ๐ถ๐ฟ๐ฒ and ๐ฒ๐บ๐ฝ๐ผ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ our teachers to benefit our learners!
These sessions are part of the Union Schools’ ongoing ๐ฅ๐๐ง๐ฉ๐ฃ๐๐ง๐จ๐๐๐ฅ ๐ฌ๐๐ฉ๐ ๐๐๐ก๐ก๐๐ง ๐๐๐ช๐๐๐ฉ๐๐ค๐ฃ, initiated in January 2021.
The professional development offered by Keller Education keeps our teachers up-to-date on new research on how children learn, emerging technology tools for the classroom and more.
