The Union High School, Graaff-Reinet 𝗨𝟭𝟯𝗔 𝗖𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗞𝗘𝗧 team enjoyed a great start to their season on Friday, 1 September, by securing a convincing T20 victory against Sonop Laerskool.
Losing the toss, Union was put in to bat and managed to score 130 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙚𝙧 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙊𝙬𝙚𝙣 𝙋𝙖𝙭𝙩𝙤𝙣, 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙮𝙚𝙙 𝙗𝙧𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙡𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙨𝙘𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙖𝙣 𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙫𝙚 67 𝙧𝙪𝙣𝙨 𝙤𝙛𝙛 60 𝙗𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙨. Paxton’s outstanding partnership with Joubert Vorster, which contributed 86 runs for the 5th wicket, was a key factor in Union’s success.
In the bowling department, Union displayed exceptional skills and managed to bowl out Sonop for just 69 runs, securing a 61-run victory. 𝗔𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗻 𝗙𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗿𝗮, 𝗢𝘄𝗲𝗻 𝗣𝗮𝘅𝘁𝗼𝗻, 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗻 𝗝𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗵𝗮, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗤𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗻 𝗡𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗯𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟮 𝘄𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵.
On Saturday, 2 September, Union faced Sonop once again in a 40-over match. Sonop stepped in to bat first, with Union’s bowlers restricting them to a mere 103 runs all out, thanks to a stellar bowling performance led by Owen Paxton with 4 wickets and the contribution of 2 wickets by Aidan Ferreira.
