The 𝗣𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗦𝗢𝗡 𝗖𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗞𝗘𝗧 𝗙𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗔𝗟 kicked off with a thrilling day of cricket, showcasing Union High School, Graaff-Reinet’s 1st XI team in two intense matches.
In the early morning T20 clash, Union’s 1st XI faced Westering in a highly anticipated game. Union began their innings, hoping to set a challenging target for their opponents.
𝘏𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘜𝘯𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘣𝘢𝘵𝘴𝘮𝘦𝘯 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘨𝘨𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘵 𝘞𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨’𝘴 𝘣𝘰𝘸𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘢𝘤𝘬, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘣𝘰𝘸𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘢 𝘵𝘰𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘰𝘧 87 𝘳𝘶𝘯𝘴.
Undeterred, Westering confidently took to the pitch, determined to chase down the target.
Through skilful batting, they reached the required runs, losing only four wickets and securing a victory by six wickets.
Next up, Union took on Muir College in the second game of the day. Union won the toss and elected to bat first. The batsmen played with determination, accumulating runs steadily. 𝘾𝙖𝙢𝙧𝙖𝙣 𝙎𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙯 𝙢𝙖𝙙𝙚 𝙖 𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙗𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙢’𝙨 𝙩𝙤𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙖𝙣 𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙨𝙘𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙤𝙛 50.
Union finished their innings with a respectable total of 126 runs.
Muir College faced a daunting task as they came in to bat. However, Union’s bowlers proved to be a formidable force, putting immense pressure on the Muir batsmen.
Shaakir Kazi (𝘱𝘪𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦) displayed exceptional bowling skills, taking four wickets for just 16 runs. Uyanda Tele also contributed significantly, claiming three wickets for 24 runs. Muir College struggled to find their footing and could only manage a total of 64 runs.
