U13A Cricket vs Sonop Laerskool

The Union High School, Graaff-Reinet 𝗨𝟭𝟯𝗔 𝗖𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗞𝗘𝗧 team enjoyed a great start to their season on Friday, 1 September, by securing a convincing T20 victory against Sonop Laerskool.

Losing the toss, Union was put in to bat and managed to score 130 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙚𝙧 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙊𝙬𝙚𝙣 𝙋𝙖𝙭𝙩𝙤𝙣, 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙮𝙚𝙙 𝙗𝙧𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙡𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙨𝙘𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙖𝙣 𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙫𝙚 67 𝙧𝙪𝙣𝙨 𝙤𝙛𝙛 60 𝙗𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙨. Paxton’s outstanding partnership with Joubert Vorster, which contributed 86 runs for the 5th wicket, was a key factor in Union’s success.

In the bowling department, Union displayed exceptional skills and managed to bowl out Sonop for just 69 runs, securing a 61-run victory. 𝗔𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗻 𝗙𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗿𝗮, 𝗢𝘄𝗲𝗻 𝗣𝗮𝘅𝘁𝗼𝗻, 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗻 𝗝𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗵𝗮, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗤𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗻 𝗡𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗯𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟮 𝘄𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵.

On Saturday, 2 September, Union faced Sonop once again in a 40-over match. Sonop stepped in to bat first, with Union’s bowlers restricting them to a mere 103 runs all out, thanks to a stellar bowling performance led by Owen Paxton with 4 wickets and the contribution of 2 wickets by Aidan Ferreira.

𝗨𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁 in the 24th over, with Brett Kenmuir scoring 20 runs, Owen Paxton 21 runs, and Joubert Vorster, 25 runs.

Learners participate in SASMT Annual Music Competion

Congratulations to 𝗟𝗶𝘀𝗼 𝗦𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘂 (Grade 8 ), 𝗧𝗮𝗲𝗴𝗲𝗻 𝗛𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗱 (Grade 9), 𝗘𝗿𝗶𝗻 𝗚𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗹𝘁 (Grade 10), and 𝗝𝗼𝘆 𝗠𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 (Grade 11) on their successful participation in the 2023 SASMT Annual Music Competition.

On Friday, 18 August, Liso, Taegen and Erin participated in the High School Music Grade 5 to 7 categories. Liso performed “Bagatelle No. 25 in A minor, WoO 59” (also known as “Für Elise”) by L. van Beethoven. Taegen played “Andante” from “Pieces de clavecin, Op. 1” by J.H. Fiocco, and Erin showcased her talent with “Allegro” from “Sonatina in C major, Op. 20” by F. Kuhlau. 𝘋𝘳 𝘌𝘳𝘯𝘢 𝘊𝘭𝘰𝘦𝘵𝘦 𝘫𝘶𝘥𝘨𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘦𝘦 𝘱𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘴.

Joy, on the other hand, participated on Saturday, 19 August, in the High School Music Grade 8 and up category, where she performed “Liebenstraum Nocture No. 3 in Ab major” by F. Liszt. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘥𝘫𝘶𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘳 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘔𝘳 𝘒𝘰𝘣𝘶𝘴 𝘉𝘶𝘺𝘴.

Early this morning, Friday, 1 September, Union High School, Graaff-Reinet congregated on the sportsfields to partake in a special assembly marking Arbor Day.

This year’s event centred around the ceremonial planting of a Camdeboo Stinkwood tree, chosen for its significance and contribution to the local ecosystem.

The assembly began with a captivating devotion led by the passionate members of the school’s Eco Club, who highlighted the intrinsic value of trees and their profound impact on the environment. The school body attentively listened as the Eco Club recited inspiring passages, urging everyone to take care of the natural world.

𝙁𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙤𝙬𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙙𝙚𝙫𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣, 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙨, 𝙖𝙧𝙢𝙚𝙙 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙡𝙨, 𝙩𝙤𝙤𝙠 𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙣𝙨 𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙛𝙪𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙣𝙚𝙬 𝙖𝙙𝙙𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙡’𝙨 𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙨𝙘𝙖𝙥𝙚 – 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙖𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙛𝙪𝙡 𝘾𝙖𝙢𝙙𝙚𝙗𝙤𝙤 𝙎𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙠𝙬𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙨𝙖𝙥𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜.
