This past Saturday, 20 January, the Union u/13A cricket team took part in a 𝗧𝟮𝟬 𝗙𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗔𝗟 held at Woodridge College.
𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙙𝙖𝙮 𝙗𝙚𝙜𝙖𝙣 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙖 𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙘𝙝 𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙩 𝙎𝙩. 𝙂𝙚𝙤𝙧𝙜𝙚’𝙨 𝙋𝙧𝙚𝙥, where Union won the toss and opted to bat first.
Although Union lost an early wicket, it paved the way for an outstanding 161-run partnership for the second wicket between 𝗗𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 and 𝗝𝗼𝘀𝗵 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹.
Mills contributed a commendable 63 runs, while Kingwill showcased his skills with a 66-run knock. Union concluded their innings with a formidable total of 169/1.
In response, the Union bowlers came out firing and managed to contain St. George’s, limiting them to 85/6. 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝗩𝗼𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 and 𝗔𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗻 𝗙𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗿𝗮 proved to be the standout performers, each taking two wickets apiece.
𝘜𝘯𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘢 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘷𝘪𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘢 𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘨𝘪𝘯 𝘰𝘧 84 𝘳𝘶𝘯𝘴.
The second game of the day saw Union facing off against Muir College. Union took their turn to bat first, but faced some tough opposition and were restricted to a total of 99/6 in their allotted 20 overs. 𝙐𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙧𝙚𝙙, 𝙐𝙣𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙪𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙙𝙞𝙨𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙮 𝙖𝙙𝙢𝙞𝙧𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙙𝙚𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙘𝙝.
Muir College ultimately emerged as the winners, achieving the required total with six wickets in hand. However, Union’s spirited fight was evident until the second last over when Muir secured the victory. 𝗥𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗻 𝗡𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗲 excelled with the ball, claiming two crucial wickets for Union.
Although Union suffered a loss in this second game, their performance and fighting spirit certainly left a lasting impression. The team showcased great sportsmanship and never gave up until the final ball was bowled.
