Opening Of Resurfaced Astro Turf

Union High School, Graaff-Reinet marked a significant milestone this afternoon as it celebrated the official opening of its recently resurfaced AstroTurf. 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙝𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙡𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙥𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙩𝙤𝙤𝙠 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙘𝙚 𝙙𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙡’𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙣𝙪𝙖𝙡 𝙁𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙨’ 𝙒𝙚𝙚𝙠𝙚𝙣𝙙 𝙘𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨, 𝙘𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙣 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙢𝙚𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙤𝙘𝙘𝙖𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣.

Underneath the blue skies, the school’s hockey players, along with their parents, staff, friends of the Union Schools and Old Unionites gathered on the pristine turf for the special ceremony. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and pride as everyone awaited the momentous event.

Addressing the assembled community, Headmaster Mr William Pringle extended a warm welcome to all attendees and expressed his heartfelt gratitude to those who played a vital role in making this project a reality. With great joy and a shared sense of accomplishment, the ceremonial red ribbon was cut, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the Union Schools.

With the newly resurfaced AstroTurf serving as a testament to Union’s commitment to providing its learners with top-notch facilities, the celebration of this achievement during Founders’ Weekend made the occasion even more remarkable – 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝗶𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘁, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗽𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲.

Founders’ Sport Awards

Union High School, Graaff-Reinet’s Old Boys & Girls took to the field on Friday & Saturday, 26 & 27 January, in the traditional Founders’ Weekend cricket and hockey matches against the learners.

A lot of fun was had as these matches are not only about what happens on the field, but also on the sidelines and afterwards as current and former Unionites of al vintages share some time together.

At the cricket prizegiving ceremony held in the Tony Burrell Union upon conclusion of the day’s play, the following trophies were presented by Mr Rhett Newton, Chairman of the Old Unionite Association:

Founders’ Senior Hockey Results

We were thrilled to welcome back a squad of enthusiastic Old Girls for Union High School, Graaff-Reinet’s highly anticipated annual Founders’ Weekend 𝗢𝗟𝗗 𝗚𝗜𝗥𝗟𝗦 𝘃𝘀 𝟭𝗦𝗧 𝗧𝗘𝗔𝗠 hockey match this past Friday afternoon.

It is always a privilege for our 1st team girls to kick off their year with such a fun fixture against our accomplished Old Girls 🏑

The Old Girls brought their A-game, challenging our talented school girls every step of the way. However, it was our determined 1st team who emerged triumphant, clinching a hard-fought 1-0 victory.

Pure excitement filled the air as the u/13A and B hockey teams took center stage on Friday afternoon during Union High School, Graaff-Reinet’s annual Founders’ Weekend hockey encounters.

From dazzling stick work to lightning-fast sprints, these young hockey players and their eager parents gave it their all on the field.

But it wasn’t just about the impressive plays and intense competition. 𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗿, 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗹𝘆 𝗯𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 – it was a mix of serious athleticism and playful camaraderie that made the matches truly special.

As the games came to and end, there were no losers on the field. Every player left with a sense of accomplishment and a deeper love for the game – a true testament to the unwavering support of the parents and the tight-knit community that surrounds these young learners.

Founders’ U/13 Cricket Results

In this Dads vs Lads game, the Lads bowled first and made an immediate impact by picking up two early wickets. It was a great start for the boys that set the tone for an intense battle between bat and ball.

𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝗩𝗼𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 bowled an impressive 7 overs on the trot, finishing with figures of 4-25. His consistency and accuracy posed a significant challenge for the opposing team.

Equally deserving of accolades was 𝗔𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗻 𝗙𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗿𝗮, whose figures of 3-30 showcased his ability to contribute significantly to the team’s success.

Chasing a target of 130 runs to win, Union’s batsmen stepped up to the challenge with determination and skill. 𝗝𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘇 dominated the crease with a brilliant innings, smashing a well-played 50 runs.

At the other end, 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗽𝘀 displayed patience and steadfastness. Anchoring the inning, Phillips scored 32 runs not out, ensuring Union’s stability as they chased down the target.
