EP Biathlon Championships

𝗪𝗘𝗟𝗟 𝗗𝗢𝗡𝗘 to Union High School, Graaff-Reinet biathlete 𝗕𝗲𝗻 𝗟𝗲𝗺𝗸𝗲, who participated in this past Sunday morning’s EP Biathlon Championships in Gqeberha.

𝘋𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘦𝘹𝘩𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘌𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯 𝘊𝘢𝘱𝘦 𝘚𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘭𝘴’ 𝘛𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘢𝘺 𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦, 𝘉𝘦𝘯’𝘴 𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘩𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘢𝘴𝘮 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘦 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘢𝘴 𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘰𝘯 𝘺𝘦𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘦.

Ben claimed a commendable 2nd place in the run within his age group, and placed 3rd in the swim event, 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝟯𝗿𝗱 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗲.

As always, his representation of Union filled him with pride, and he eagerly anticipates the upcoming South African Championships in Bloemfontein in April, where he will compete as an Eastern Cape representative.

A 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 goes out to Ben’s dad, Grant, who not only supported Ben but also excelled in his own category by breaking the EP record and securing a well-deserved gold medal.

SA Schools’ Swimming Trials

Three talented swimmers from Union High School, Graaff-Reinet – Ben Lemke, Zoë Mills and Gerda Clarke – made their mark at the SA Schools’ Swimming Trials in East London this past Saturday, 17 February.

Representing the Sarah Baartman District Team, these athletes competed against formidable opponents, with two of them clinching well-deserved medals.

𝗕𝗲𝗻 𝗟𝗲𝗺𝗸𝗲, a standout competitor, impressed in 8 events, achieving great results: 1st place in the 200m Breaststroke and 100m Butterfly, 2nd place in the 200m Freestyle, 50m Breaststroke, and 100m Breaststroke, and 3rd place in the 50m Butterfly.

𝗭𝗼ë 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀, competed in 7 events and stood out with a medal-winning performance in the 200m Freestyle.

Additionally, Zoë also secured 4th place in both the 50m and 200m Breaststroke events.

U/15 Cricket vs Muir College

𝗨/𝟭𝟱 𝗖𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗞𝗘𝗧 team faced off against Muir College this past Saturday, 17 February.

Despite losing the toss at Muir College, our young team displayed tenacity and determination on the field.

𝙈𝙪𝙞𝙧 𝘾𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙜𝙚 𝙨𝙚𝙩 𝙖 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙜𝙚𝙩 𝙤𝙛 152 𝙧𝙪𝙣𝙨, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙗𝙤𝙬𝙡𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙧𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙤𝙘𝙘𝙖𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣.

𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗞𝗿𝗮𝗮𝗶 stood out with a remarkable performance, bowling 10 overs, which included 3 maidens, conceding only 33 runs off 60 balls while picking up an impressive 5 wickets.

Stepping in to bat, Union’s u/15s put up a spirited effort to chase down Muir College’s score.

With focused determination and skillful play, our team secured a well-deserved victory with 7 wickets in hand.

Prefects Team-Building Adventure

The prefects of Union High School, Graaff-Reinet’s Arthur Kingwill House recently embarked on an unforgettable 𝗧𝗘𝗔𝗠-𝗕𝗨𝗜𝗟𝗗𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗔𝗗𝗩𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗘 at Asante Sana Private Game Reserve.

𝘚𝘦𝘵 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬𝘥𝘳𝘰𝘱 𝘰𝘧 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘺 𝘣𝘦𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘴𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘺, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘢 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘰𝘥𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘮𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘢 𝘵𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦.

The highlight of their experience was a 3-hour game drive, during which they were fortunate to see a lot of wildlife.

Early morning walks immersed them in the serenity of the reserve, while quiet moments around the bonfire provided the perfect setting for bonding and reflection.

As night fell, the sound of elephants grazing and trumpeting near their accommodation created goosebump-inducing moments, adding a touch of magic to the experience.

Brain breaks filled with excitement, scrumptious meals that tantalized the taste buds, and engaging sessions around the table fostered camaraderie and personal growth among the prefects.
