On Tuesday morning, 5 March, a group of 11 swimmers from Union Preparatory School, Graaff-Reinet and Union High School, Graaff-Reinet proudly represented the Karoo at the annual Inter-Districts Gala held at DSG in Makhanda.
𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘭𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘶𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴, 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘸𝘤𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘹𝘤𝘦𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘣𝘰𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘵’𝘴 𝘴𝘸𝘪𝘮𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘥𝘶𝘢𝘭 𝘴𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘭𝘴’ 𝘴𝘸𝘪𝘮𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘮𝘦𝘴.
Despite the fierce competition in all 60 events, the Karoo swimmers displayed unwavering determination and gave their best in every race.
𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙝𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙙𝙖𝙮 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙡𝙖𝙙𝙙𝙚𝙧, 𝙢𝙚𝙙𝙡𝙚𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙛𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙮𝙡𝙚 𝙧𝙚𝙡𝙖𝙮 𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙚𝙨, 𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙨𝙬𝙞𝙢𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙖𝙜𝙚 𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙥𝙨 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙚𝙩𝙚𝙙.
𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗟𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦 to the Karoo team for their outstanding performance, securing victory with a total of 425 points. Albany came in a close second with 414 points, and Amathole claimed third place with 268 points.
𝘞𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘺 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘴𝘸𝘪𝘮𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘧𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘵. 𝘞𝘦 𝘦𝘹𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘧𝘦𝘭𝘵 𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘦𝘹𝘤𝘦𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘥𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯.
Several of our Union Schools’ junior swimmers were placed in the Top 3 of their respective events and being rewarded with medals:
𝗧𝗮𝘆𝗹𝗼𝗿 𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗼𝗯𝘀 earned a gold medal in the Girls’ u/11 50m Freestyle event, a silver medal in the 50m Butterfly event and another gold medal in the 50m Backstroke event.
𝘕𝘰𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘺, 𝘛𝘢𝘺𝘭𝘰𝘳 𝘴𝘦𝘵 𝘢 𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘪𝘳𝘭𝘴 𝘶/11 50𝘮 𝘉𝘢𝘤𝘬𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘬𝘦 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘢𝘯 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘰𝘧 39.21 𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘴 – 𝘴𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘥𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳-𝘋𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘵𝘴 𝘨𝘢𝘭𝘢 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘶/9, 𝘶/10 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘶/11 50𝘮 𝘉𝘢𝘤𝘬𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘬𝘦 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴.
𝗗𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝗹 𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 claimed a silver medal in both the u/11 50m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly events.
𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗠𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗮𝘆 secured bronze medals in both the Boys u/11 50m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke events.
𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗻 𝗡𝗮𝘂𝗱é earned a well-deserved bronze medal in the u/9 50m Freestyle event.
𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 earned a bronze medal in the u/10 50m Backstroke event.
𝗚𝗲𝗺𝗺𝗮 𝗠𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗮𝘆 emerged victorious in the Girls’ u/10 50m Butterfly event, earning a well-deserved gold medal. She also claimed the silver in the Girls’ u/10 Backstroke event.
