Union High School, Graaff-Reinet’s u/13A hockey side participated in the annual 𝗔𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗛𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘆 & 𝗥𝘂𝗴𝗯𝘆 𝗙𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹 hosted by Clarendon Park Primary School over a span of three days last week.
𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙛𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙖𝙡 𝙛𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙖 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙗𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝙛𝙪𝙡𝙡 𝙛𝙞𝙚𝙡𝙙 𝙖𝙣𝙙 7-𝙖-𝙨𝙞𝙙𝙚 𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙨, 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙫𝙞𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙮𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙖 𝙙𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙚 𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙨.
In their first match, the Union team defeated Herbert Hurd with an impressive score of 4-0. The team continued their winning streak in the 7-a-side match against Summerwood, securing a 3-0 victory.
In a highly competitive full-field match against Westering, Union managed to secure a hard-fought draw with a score of 0-0.
𝘋𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘳𝘢𝘸, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘮’𝘴 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘸𝘤𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘵𝘦 𝘢𝘵 𝘢 𝘩𝘪𝘨𝘩 𝘭𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭.
The team then faced a challenging 7-a-side match against Stirling, where they fought valiantly but unfortunately lost with a score of 2-4. In another full-field match, the Union girls faced tough competition from Hudson Park and suffered a 0-2 loss.
Continuing their full-field matches, the team faced Clarendon Park and experienced a close defeat with a score of 0-1. In the subsequent 7-a-side match against Hudson Park, Union faced a strong opponent and lost with a score of 3-1.
Despite these setbacks, the team displayed their resilience and determination in the 7-a-side match against St Georges, securing an impressive victory with a score of 10-0.
However, in their final full-field match against Stirling, the team suffered another 0-4 loss.
Ending the festival on a positive note, the team secured a well-deserved victory with a score of 3-1 in the final 7-a-side match against Clarendon Park.
Overall, participating in the Alan Lones Hockey & Rugby Festival provided the young Union side with valuable experience early in the season. The team’s performance throughout the festival demonstrated their commitment to continuous improvement and highlighted areas for growth.
