Aside from providing an education, schools have a responsibility to keep learners, staff and visitors safe. At Union High School, Graaff-Reinet, we take this responsibility with the utmost seriousness and are dedicated to creating a protective environment for all.

In line with this commitment, 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗱-𝗰𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗖𝗖𝗧𝗩) 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘀 in all our junior school classrooms and the quad area. This initiative represents a crucial step in our ongoing efforts to enhance the safety and security of our campus.

The cameras have been meticulously positioned to cover key areas such as entrances, hallways and classrooms, ensuring thorough surveillance of vital spots within the school. 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘩𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘮 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘴𝘢𝘧𝘦𝘨𝘶𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘢𝘭𝘴𝘰 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘴 𝘢𝘴 𝘢 𝘥𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘱𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘵, 𝘧𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘤𝘪𝘱𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘦𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵.

With this enhanced ability to oversee activities, our teachers and administrators can promptly address any issues, maintaining a positive and conducive atmosphere for learning. We firmly believe that this proactive approach will result in a safer and more efficient school environment for everyone.

At Union High School, Graaff-Reinet, we treasure our traditions, which create cherished memories and reinforce the values we hold dear.

One such beloved annual tradition took place this afternoon, Wednesday, 10 July, when the Grade 7 class teachers, Mrs Hanli Rose-Innes and Miss Justine Matthews, hosted a delightful tea for the young Grade 7 ladies at the charming Coldstream Restaurant.

The setting was perfect for an afternoon of tea and treats, where the conversation was both lively and enlightening. Special mention must be made of the Grade 7 girls who assisted with the arrangements – well done to Micha Murray, Chanté Bezuidenhout, Rachel Wenham, Abonani Matushe, Liso Mamase, Asanele Mayekiso

We also extend our deepest thanks to Mrs Rose-Innes and Miss Matthews – their dedication to creating meaningful experiences for their learners is evident in the thoughtful planning and execution of this lovely afternoon. Through events like these, they not only teach important social skills but also foster a sense of community and belonging among the girls.

Additionally, we are immensely grateful to our guest speaker, Mrs Elaine Stanley, whose valuable speech on realizing one’s self-worth and loving oneself left a lasting impact on everyone present. Introducing a new educator at Union High School, Graaff-Reinet is always an exciting moment, but when a new appointment results in a Grade 5 learner being overheard saying they hope their day starts with a double maths lesson – words that are rarely, if ever, uttered in school corridors – you just know that that teacher brings with them a passion for their subject that is truly infectious.

Mr Smit brings with him 19 years of experience teaching Mathematics, previously honing his skills in Suideroord, Johannesburg. His extensive background and dedication to education have already begun to inspire and engage our junior learners, making maths an exciting and enjoyable subject.

Union High School, Graaff-Reinet’s annual junior sports fest began in grand style with the traditional cocktail. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘴𝘦𝘵 𝘢 𝘧𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘰𝘯𝘦, 𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘴, 𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘤𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯.

The school’s headmaster, Mr William Pringle, delivered a heartfelt speech, expressing gratitude to all visitors for their attendance and to everyone who contributed to the event’s meticulous planning. 𝗔 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘀 Astron Energy Eastern Cape 𝗮𝗻𝗱 Botha’s Garage, 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹.

The evening was made even more special by the exceptional efforts of the Union moms, who once again outdid themselves in hosting a memorable function. 𝘞𝘦 𝘦𝘹𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘬𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘥𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬.

This cocktail evening was a fitting start to what promises to be an exciting and successful sports fest, highlighting the community spirit and enthusiasm that define the Union Schools community.
