Union High School, Graaff-Reinet‘s u/13A hockey team had the privilege of participating in the annual Pietie Coetzee u/13 hockey tournament in Bloemfontein this past Friday and Saturday.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲, who ultimately emerged as the overall winners of the event.
Despite a tough 3-0 loss, the Union girls displayed resilience and determination. 𝗜𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗴𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗷𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆’𝘀 𝘂/𝟭𝟯𝗔 𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲, the team faced another hard-fought battle, resulting in a 2-0 defeat. Despite these setbacks, the girls showcased incredible spirit and a never-give-up attitude, making us immensely proud of their fighting spirit.
The team then managed a well-earned 0-0 draw against Willem Postma and celebrated a 1-0 victory over Menlo Park, 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗱 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗽𝗼𝗼𝗹.
The following day’s matches saw Union triumph with a 2-0 win over Vaalpark. The final showdown for 5th and 6th place against Willem Postma led to a tense sudden death shootout after a 0-0 draw, where Union narrowly missed out, 𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝟲𝘁𝗵 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟭𝟬 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘀.
