Union High School is proud to announce that talented cricketer 𝗬𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗞𝗮𝘇𝗶 has been selected to represent the Eastern Province (EP) u/16 cricket team.

Yaseen will be competing in the u/16 National Boys’ Cricket Week scheduled to take place in Tshwane from 10 to 14 December, 2024. This national event will serve as a platform for young athletes to showcase their talents and compete against some of the best u/16 players from across the country.

𝗬𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸, 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁.

Friday morning’s assembly at Union High School saw two of our junior cricketers being 𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙜𝙣𝙞𝙯𝙚𝙙 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙧𝙚𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙚𝙙 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨 during their recent encounters on the cricket field.

𝗠𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗮𝘆 𝗛𝗼𝗽𝗲 took 5 wickets for 26 runs in 9 overs against Kingswood Junior School.

𝗘𝗱𝘄𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝗼𝗹𝗺𝗲𝘀 took 5 wickets for a mere 4 runs in 4 overs against Laer Volkskool.

This past weekend saw Union High School, Graaff-Reinet’s senior cricket teams face their Marlow Agricultural High School counterparts.

𝟭𝗦𝗧 𝗧𝗘𝗔𝗠:

The weekend kicked off with the 1st team’s T20 match on Friday evening, October 18, which was unfortunately disrupted by a power outage.

The team, however, had the opportunity to face Marlow again on Saturday morning on Union’s Murray Field in a 50-over match.

𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝘀𝘀, 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗮𝘁 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁, 𝘀𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝟮𝟯𝟰 𝗿𝘂𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝟰𝟵 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀.

The highlight of the innings was a stellar performance by captain Shaakir Kazi, who scored a brilliant 81 runs. In response, Marlow struggled against a disciplined bowling attack and was bowled out for just 91 runs.

Yaaseen Kazi and Trystan Hulleman were the stars of the bowling department, each claiming 4 wickets for 30 and 16 runs, respectively.

𝟮𝗡𝗗 𝗧𝗘𝗔𝗠:

In a spirited display, Union’s 2nd team took on Marlow in a 40-over match in Cradock on Saturday.

𝘔𝘢𝘳𝘭𝘰𝘸 𝘸𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘰𝘴𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘢𝘵 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵, 𝘴𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 120 𝘳𝘶𝘯𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘰𝘸𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 31𝘴𝘵 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳.

Muhammad Ahmed was the standout performer with the ball, taking 4 wickets for just 21 runs in 8 overs. Sibabalwe Mbutye also made a significant contribution, top-scoring with 39 runs.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝟮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱 𝗯𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲, 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝘆 𝟴 𝘄𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁𝘀.

𝗨𝟭𝟱:

Union’s u/15 team opened the weekend’s fixtures on Friday with a T20 clash at Botanics.

Union batted first after winning the toss but could only muster 90 runs in their allotted 20 overs. Marlow pursued the target with determination, successfully chasing down the score and winning the match by 3 wickets.

𝘋𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘴, 𝘜𝘯𝘪𝘰𝘯’𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘥 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘧𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘴.

The excitement continued on Saturday morning with a 40-over match on Union’s Puttick Field.

Marlow won the toss and chose to bat, putting up an impressive total of 260 runs. In reply, Union’s batting lineup faltered, collapsing for just 59 runs, resulting in a heavy defeat by 201 runs. 𝗔𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗶𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀.
