Mayoral Top Achievers Awards

At the Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality’s 𝗠𝗮𝘆𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗼𝗽 𝗔𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘆 held at the Drostdy Hotel on Wednesday, 22 January, Union High School’s top matric candidate from the 2024 NSC examinations, Joy Merifield, addressed an audience of fellow top achievers, parents, politicians and officials from both the municipality and the Department of Education.

𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘬𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘶𝘨𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘔𝘢𝘺𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘈𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘴 𝘊𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘺 𝘤𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘹𝘤𝘦𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘰𝘱 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘋𝘳 𝘉𝘦𝘺𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘕𝘢𝘶𝘥é 𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘱𝘢𝘭 𝘳𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘰𝘯.

During the ceremony, the 𝗧𝗼𝗽 𝟯 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 were announced: Union’s Na’eem Mahomed secured 3rd place, Adriaan Blignaut from Volkskool took 2nd place and Joy Merrifield, also from Union, proudly claimed 1st place.

Founders’ Weekend – Cricket Prize-Giving

Union High School hosted its annual Founders’ Weekend cricket matches today, Saturday, 24 January, featuring the school’s 1st, 2nd and u/15A teams against the Old Boys.

These matches are more than just a showcase of talent on the field; they also serve as 𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀, both during the games and in the camaraderie that follows.

Following an exciting day of cricket, a prize-giving ceremony was held in the Tony Burrell Union, where several trophies were awarded to outstanding players:

• Most valuable player of the day – 1st XI: 𝗬𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗞𝗮𝘇𝗶
• Best Batsman – 1st XI: 𝗬𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗹𝗮 𝗪𝗮𝗻𝗮
• Best Bowler – 1st XI: 𝗧𝗿𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻 𝗛𝘂𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻
• Best Schoolboy Performer – 2nd XI: 𝗗𝘄𝗮𝘆𝗻𝗲 𝗞𝗼𝗲𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗴
• Best Schoolboy Performer – u/15: 𝗠𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗮𝘆 𝗛𝗼𝗽𝗲
• The Dave Stern Memorial Award for an up-and-coming cricketer: 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘂𝗺 𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗼𝗯𝘀
