Interhouse Gala – Results

Summer weather and happy learners made for a perfect ๐—œ๐—ก๐—ง๐—˜๐—ฅ๐—›๐—ข๐—จ๐—ฆ๐—˜ ๐—š๐—”๐—Ÿ๐—” for Union High School Grade 5 to 12 swimmers on Tuesday evening, 28 January.

The two houses entered into the spirit of the day and gave great support to all the swimmers and, after an evening of extraordinary effort, ๐˜ฟ๐™–๐™ก๐™ฎ ๐™ƒ๐™ค๐™ช๐™จ๐™š ๐™ฌ๐™–๐™จ ๐™ช๐™ก๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™ข๐™–๐™ฉ๐™š๐™ก๐™ฎ ๐™˜๐™ง๐™ค๐™ฌ๐™ฃ๐™š๐™™ ๐™–๐™จ ๐™ฉ๐™๐™ž๐™จ ๐™ฎ๐™š๐™–๐™งโ€™๐™จ ๐™ฌ๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™ฃ๐™š๐™ง๐™จ, with a total of 543 points, compared to Arnott’s 364.

The Interhouse Gala holds a special place in our hearts as it’s always an event thatโ€™s filled with smiles, friendly rivalry and a strong sense of camaraderie among all those participating. Last nightโ€™s event only served to โ€“ once again โ€“ remind us of how fortunate we all are to be a part of such an incredible school community.

[ This year marked the third year that our Interhouse gala was held in our newly extended 25m swimming pool, resulting in the breaking of a total of 25 records. ]

๐—ฆ๐—ฃ๐—˜๐—–๐—œ๐—”๐—Ÿ ๐—ฅ๐—˜๐—–๐—ข๐—š๐—ก๐—œ๐—ง๐—œ๐—ข๐—ก goes to the following swimmers for their exceptional performances:

๐—š๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐—น๐˜€ ๐˜‚/๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฎ: Taylor Jacobs was the standout, securing an impressive six first-place finishes and setting four new records. Catie Davenport and Gemma Murray also deserve commendation for their contributions.

๐—•๐—ผ๐˜†๐˜€ ๐˜‚/๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฎ: Uziah Willemse shone brightly, clinching three first-place finishes, two second places and one third. Notable performances were also delivered by Michael Maritz and Thomas Krige.

๐—š๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐—น๐˜€ ๐˜‚/๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฐ (๐—๐˜‚๐—ป๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ฟ): Angelique Kyanda-Kaboza dominated this category with five first places, one second place and three new records. Lilly Hunter and Kari Stern also performed admirably.

๐—•๐—ผ๐˜†๐˜€ ๐˜‚/๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฐ (๐—๐˜‚๐—ป๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ฟ): Dante Mills excelled with three first places, one second, one third and a new record to his name. Cayden Thompson also had a commendable showing.

๐—š๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐—น๐˜€ ๐˜‚/๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฐ (๐—ฆ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ฟ): Miley Burger led the field with five first places and one second. Bella Hawkins, Kayla Norval, Micha Murray and Clea Clarke also made notable contributions.

๐—•๐—ผ๐˜†๐˜€ ๐˜‚/๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฐ (๐—ฆ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ฟ): Aidan Ferreira and Jordan Maritz both delivered strong performances, with Aidan achieving two first places, a second, a third and a fourth, while Jordan secured two first places, a new record, a second and a third place. Murray Hope also performed well with a first and a second place finish.

๐—š๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐—น๐˜€ ๐˜‚/๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฒ: Alyssa Trollip displayed dominance with four first places, four new records and two second places. Zoรซ Mills garnered multiple second places, a couple of firsts as well as a record, while Gerda Clarke consistently placed third.

๐—•๐—ผ๐˜†๐˜€ ๐˜‚/๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฒ: Mark Lemke showcased his talent with multiple first-place finishes, including a fifth place.

๐—š๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐—น๐˜€ ๐—ข๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ป: Misha Newton led this group with five first places and one second. Mecoli Vorster, Rebecca Copeman, Esethu Mabula, Sarah Jacobs and Tara Ferreira also made significant contributions.

๐—•๐—ผ๐˜†๐˜€ ๐—ข๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ป: Ben Lemke stood out with six first places and five new records, while Daniel Marais consistently kept pace and Peter-Daniel Clegg and Kyle Liebenberg also delivered strong performances.

River Z Mile – Results

We are incredibly proud of the Union High School contingent that participated in this past Sundayโ€™s sea mile in Gqeberha.

โ— Among the standout performances, Grade 7 learner ๐—”๐—ป๐—ด๐—ฒ๐—น๐—ถ๐—พ๐˜‚๐—ฒ ๐—ž๐˜†๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—ฎ-๐—ž๐—ฎ๐—ฏ๐—ผ๐˜‡๐—ฎ shone brightly, participating in the u/16 female half mile. Angelique won her category with an impressive time of 15:37.

โ— Union swim coach ๐— ๐—ฟ๐˜€ ๐—ก๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ฒ ๐——๐—ฎ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฝ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐˜ also participated in the full Ladies Mile, finishing 20th overall with a time of 30:43.

โ— ๐—š๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฑ๐—ฎ ๐—–๐—น๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ธ๐—ฒ had a fantastic outing, completing the Ladies Mile in 26:41, which earned her a commendable 13th place overall.

โ— ๐—ญ๐—ผรซ ๐— ๐—ถ๐—น๐—น๐˜€ also made her mark, finishing in 11th place with a time of 26:28.

โ— In the Menโ€™s Mile, ๐—•๐—ฒ๐—ป ๐—Ÿ๐—ฒ๐—บ๐—ธ๐—ฒ swam to a time of 24:25, finishing 18th overall, while Union educators ๐— ๐—ฟ ๐—๐—ฃ ๐—ž๐—ฟ๐˜‚๐—ด๐—ฒ๐—ฟ and ๐— ๐—ฟ ๐—›๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ป๐—ผ ๐—ฆ๐—ฝ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐˜‚๐˜€ completed the race in 37:20 and 35:47, securing 55th and 54th places respectively. ๐——๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐—น ๐— ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ถ๐˜€ also participated, finishing in 35:46 and coming in 53rd overall.

โ— Not to be overlooked, Union mom ๐—”๐—ป๐—ป๐—ฎ ๐—–๐—น๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ธ๐—ฒ participated in the Ladies Mile, finishing strong with a time of 25:40, earning her 8th overall position.
