SSA Level 1 Provincial Age Group Gala

This past Saturday, 15 March, saw five Union High School swimmers participating in the 𝗦𝗦𝗔 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝟭 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗴𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 𝗚𝗮𝗹𝗮. This event marked the culmination of a busy and challenging swimming term, and our learners rose to the occasion with outstanding performances that truly exemplified the rewards of hard work and perseverance.

● Leading the charge was 𝗥𝗲𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗰𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻, competing in the 15-16 age category. 𝘙𝘦𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘤𝘢 𝘥𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘯 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘤𝘳𝘰𝘴𝘴 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘦𝘴, 𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘣𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘴 (𝘗𝘉𝘴) 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴: she clinched 3rd place in the 50m Breaststroke, 4th place in the 50m Backstroke and 5th in both the 100m Freestyle, significantly improving her time by 3.39 seconds, and the 50m Freestyle with a commendable 3.07-second improvement.

● 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 also shone brightly, earning herself four medals: 1st place in both the 50m and 100m Breaststroke, 2nd place in the 50m Backstroke and 3rd in the 13&U 100m Freestyle, alongside a 5th place finish in the 50m Freestyle.

● 𝗞𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝘁𝘁 made a splash with her debut in the 100m Breaststroke, securing 3rd place. She also placed 5th in the 50m Backstroke, 6th in the 50m Breaststroke and 7th in the 50m Freestyle, showcasing her versatility and tenacity in the pool.

● 𝗨𝘇𝗶𝗮𝗵 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗺𝘀𝗲 put forth a solid effort as well, finishing 5th in the 100m Freestyle and 6th in the 50m Breaststroke. He also secured 7th place in both the 50m Backstroke and 50m Freestyle, demonstrating his competitive spirit and commitment to improvement.

● However, the standout swimmer of the day was undoubtedly 𝗚𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗮 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲. Gerda’s talents shone through as she garnered an astonishing four 1st place ribbons, including a phenomenal 4.99-second PB in the 50m Butterfly, an 8.35-second improvement in the 100m Freestyle, a 7.55-second PB in the 50m Freestyle and a new personal best of 1:44.93 in the 100m Backstroke. She also claimed two 3rd place finishes in the 50m Breaststroke and 50m Backstroke, solidifying her status as a top competitor.

● Additionally, Union Preppie swimmer 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗮𝗿 made his mark by placing in the top 10 for the 50m Breaststroke and achieving 12th place in the 50m Freestyle, with a notable 2.26-second time improvement.
