Senior Rugby vs St Andrew’s School

Saturday, 15 March, saw Union High School’s senior rugby teams facing off against their counterparts from St Andrew’s School in Bloemfontein.

In the ๐˜‚/๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฑ๐—” match, Union fought hard but ultimately fell to St Andrew’s with a score of 10-37. The ๐˜‚/๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฒ๐—” team enjoyed a great game, holding St Andrew’s to a scoreless game, finishing at 12-0. The ๐˜‚/๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฐ๐—” team battled valiantly but ended the day with a 12-29 loss.

The day saw excellent performances from the ๐Ÿฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐—ซ๐—ฉ, who dominated their match with a resounding 44-0 victory,

Our ๐Ÿญ๐˜€๐˜ ๐—ซ๐—ฉ triumphed over St Andrew’s with a strong 41-10 win. In the first half the Union boys got off to a very good start and we managed to put the first points on the board through a try by Ronan Ewers. St Andrew’s then got a penalty which they converted taking the score to 5- 3. Another try by Christopher Nqumashe extended our lead to 12-3. The boys put pressure on the St Andrew’s defense and this lead to a brilliant individual try by Elvandre Meyer extending our lead even further by 17-3. St Andrew’s then scored a try and we went into half time leading 17-10.ย

The second half the boys came back even more fired up as we broke the defense line of the opposition and scored once again through Yonela Wana, the scored 24- 10. Union then received a yellow card but that did not put us on the back foot as we managed to score two more tries through a second try by Elvandre Meyer and Shaakir Kazi, taking our lead to 41-10.

Overall, we are incredibly proud of our boys’ efforts and sportsmanship on the field today. ๐—š๐—ผ ๐—จ๐—ป๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป!

Senior Hockey, EP Trials – Results

Saturday: EP Open

One-Way 30-Min Matches
The true test of a team is not how they perform when things go their way, but how they respond when faced with adversity. After a tough Friday, They walked back onto the field with a determination that could not be measured by the scoreboard. They played for each other, stood tall in the tough moments, and proved that setbacks do not define them but how they rise does.

Drew vs Pearson. Players of the Match: Tara Ferreira & Sarah Jacobs
Won vs Westering. Players of the Match: Ferronique Booysen & Mia Botha
Lost vs DSG. Players of the Match: Leigh-Ann Murray, Nadine Murray & Katelyn Trollip
Won vs Framesby (a game where we dominated and could have easily scored more). Players of the Match: Kenza Neill & Misha Newton

Sunday: U14 EP Trials

Our U14s ended the weekend on a high note at the EP Trials, showcasing their talent and teamwork. Won vs Victoria Girls.
Drew vs Victoria Park
They played structured, disciplined hockey and represented Union with pride. Their performance at trials was a testament to their hard work and dedication.

Final Thoughts
This weekend embodied everything we stand for as the hockey first team. Mind over matterโ€”we refused to let setbacks define us. Compete to conquerโ€”every game, every moment, we fight to be better than we were before. Heart of a championโ€”we played with passion, resilience, and a belief in each other.

We are not just playing hockey; we are changing the story. We are stepping onto the field with purpose, commanding the moment, and proving that we have the strength to conquer the mind. This weekend was another step in the right direction and I have no doubt that this team is capable of great things.

Well done, girls
