As soon as they put down their pens after writing their last exam on Wednesday morning, 1 December, Union High School’s 2021 matrics – the school’s newest alumni – put their school shoes on their desks to be donated to those less fortunate.
This has become a popular way for Union’s Grade 12s to give back at the end of their high school careers.
As we watched the matriculants leave the school in high spirits – either barefoot, in flip flops, or wearing only their socks – our hearts swelled.
At Union, we strive to cultivate a culture of giving among our learners and seeing so many pairs of shoes and knowing the importance they hold for the underprivileged, make us very proud of our learners.
