Union Grade 12 learners, Arno Nell and David Kinghorn, recently enjoyed the extraordinary opportunity of being flown from Graaff-Reinet to Gqeberha in a Sling 4 aircraft, to participate in an educational excursion geared towards young minds aspiring to explore the realm of aviation.

𝘈𝘳𝘯𝘰 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘋𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘥 𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘦𝘹𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘣𝘺 𝘴𝘶𝘣𝘮𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘢𝘺𝘴 (𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘸𝘤𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘱𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘭𝘦𝘥𝘨𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘺) 𝘪𝘯 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘢 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘥 𝘥𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘜𝘯𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘏𝘪𝘨𝘩 𝘚𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘭’𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘊𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘳𝘴’ 𝘞𝘦𝘦𝘬.

Upon their arrival in Gqeberha, the learners were warmly welcomed to the Air Traffic Control Tower at the Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport. The dedicated team from the Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) graciously took the time to explain to Arno and David the intricacies of air traffic control operations. Witnessing the team’s enthusiasm for their work left an indelible impression on the learners, inspiring them to explore potential careers in this field.

𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙧𝙮 𝙖𝙡𝙨𝙤 𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙡𝙪𝙙𝙚𝙙 𝙖 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙝𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙖𝙨𝙞𝙘𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙛𝙡𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜, provided by the prestigious Madiba Bay School of Flight. Under the guidance and expertise of highly experienced instructors, Arno and David were introduced to the fundamental principles of aviation. From understanding aerodynamics to conducting pre-flight checks, the learners gained valuable insight into the world of flying. The hands-on experience provided them with a real taste of the exhilaration and freedom associated with taking to the skies.

The school expresses its gratitude to the Air Traffic and Navigation Services team at the Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport and the Madiba Bay School of Flight for their warm welcome and enriching lessons. 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁, 𝗔𝗿𝗻𝗼 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗱’𝘀 𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗻𝘂𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱, 𝗽𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀.

Union’s Grade 7 learners put in a lot of extra effort to make their 𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗞𝗘𝗧 𝗗𝗔𝗬, which took place this morning, Tuesday, 22 August, a huge success.

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘬𝘦𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘴 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘌𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘤 𝘔𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘚𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘊𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘶𝘮, 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘦 7𝘴 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘵 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘴.

Market Day involved creating an ‘open market’ atmosphere, where the entire school had an opportunity to purchase goods on sale from our budding Grade 7 entrepreneurs.

𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙟𝙚𝙘𝙩 𝙞𝙣𝙫𝙤𝙡𝙫𝙚𝙨 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙖𝙙𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙠𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜, 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙪𝙙𝙜𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙘𝙖𝙡𝙘𝙪𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙛𝙞𝙩 𝙤𝙧 𝙡𝙤𝙨𝙨.

Items on sale included food and drinks, crafts, toys and novelty items, along with some fun activities such as spin-the-wheel, a balloon popping station and a photobooth.

We are incredibly excited to be hosting our inaugural 𝗖𝗔𝗠𝗗𝗘𝗕𝗢𝗢 𝗘𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗗𝗗𝗙𝗢𝗗 this week – from Wednesday, 23 August to Friday, 25 August.

𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘦𝘹𝘤𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘦𝘴 𝘢 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘸𝘤𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘦𝘹𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘳𝘺 𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘴.

We invite you to join us and witness remarkable performances from the participating schools and individuals. Daily 𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗥𝗬 𝗧𝗜𝗖𝗞𝗘𝗧𝗦 will be conveniently available at the door for just R40 per day, allowing you to experience the magic of the Eisteddfod on any given day.

For those who don’t want to miss a single moment, a three-day pass is available at only R100.

We take great pride in having been able to present 𝗙𝗨𝗟𝗟 𝗖𝗢𝗟𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗦 to these learners and congratulate them on this wonderful achievement!

𝗙𝗨𝗟𝗟 𝗖𝗢𝗟𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗦 were presented to Leah Marais (hockey), Brigetté Oelofsen (hockey) and Hlakanipha Skepe (rugby).

𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗟𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦 to Brent Hesselink, Anna Pringle, Tara Ferreira (Re-award) and Caytah-Leigh Koeberg (Re-award) on being awarded 𝗙𝗨𝗟𝗟 𝗖𝗢𝗟𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗦 for tennis.

𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗟𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦 to Cadee Arends, Sasha Cochrane, Johan du Plessis, Vivian McEwan, Arno Nell, Sobuhle Nyambali and Shona Zana on achieving 𝗙𝗨𝗟𝗟 𝗖𝗢𝗟𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗦 for participation in cultural activities!
