Our newly elected #prefects for 2023/24 are attending their prefect camp this weekend, 22 to 24 September.
This yearโs camp is being held near Somerset East on the farm ‘Skietfontein’.
Accompanied by Mrs Nelia Read and Mr Hanno Sparrius, our learner leaders will spend the weekend doing fun-filled activities geared towards fostering the development of key skills such as ๐๐ค๐ฃ๐๐๐๐๐ฃ๐๐, ๐จ๐๐ก๐-๐๐๐ก๐๐๐, ๐๐ค๐ข๐ข๐ช๐ฃ๐๐๐๐ฉ๐๐ค๐ฃ and ๐ฉ๐๐๐ข ๐จ๐ฅ๐๐ง๐๐ฉ.

This past weekendโs cricket matches between Union High School, Graaff-Reinet and Kingswood College, South Africa, contested in Makhanda, saw Unionโs u/11A and u/13A teams achieve mixed success in a series of entertaining and closely contested games.
โข On Friday, 22 September, Unionโs u/11 team displayed their impressive bowling skills as they bowled Kingswood out for a score of 63 runs. Unionโs bowlers all delivered excellent performances, with each managing to chip in with wickets. ๐๐ฒ๐๐ฝ๐ถ๐๐ฒ ๐ฎ ๐๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ฒ ๐ฐ๐ต๐ฎ๐๐ฒ, ๐จ๐ป๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐บ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฎ๐ด๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐๐ผ ๐๐ฒ๐ฐ๐๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐ฎ ๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ ๐๐ถ๐๐ต ๐ฏ ๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐ธ๐ฒ๐๐ ๐๐ผ ๐๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฒ, ๐ณ๐ถ๐ป๐ถ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐บ๐ฎ๐๐ฐ๐ต ๐ฎ๐ ๐ฒ๐ณ/๐ณ.
The following day, the u/11 team won the toss and chose to bat first. However, the team struggled to get going and were eventually bowled out for 80 runs in just 17.5 overs. ๐ก๐ฎ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ป๐ถ๐ฒ๐น ๐ฃ๐ต๐ถ๐น๐ถ๐ฝ๐ and ๐๐๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ๐น๐ฒ ๐๐ฎ๐น๐ถ were Union’s best performers, batting steadily with 14 and 8 runs respectively. Kingswood passed the target with just one wicket down.
โข The Union u/13 team found themselves in a similar position on Friday, losing the toss and being asked to bowl first. Kingswood scored an impressive 127 runs, with ๐๐ผ๐ต๐ป ๐๐ฒ๐ป๐ฟ๐ ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด and ๐๐ผ๐๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ ๐ฉ๐ผ๐ฟ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฟ each taking three or more wickets. Union struggled in the initial stages of their innings, finding themselves 49 for 5 down in the 10th over. However, a strong performance from ๐ง๐ฟ๐ถ๐๐๐ฎ๐ป ๐๐๐ฑ๐๐ผ๐ป almost turned the game in Union’s favour, scoring 40 runs from just 25 balls. ๐๐ฆ๐ด๐ฑ๐ช๐ต๐ฆ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ช๐ณ ๐ฃ๐ฆ๐ด๐ต ๐ฆ๐ง๐ง๐ฐ๐ณ๐ต๐ด, ๐๐ฏ๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ ๐ถ๐ญ๐ต๐ช๐ฎ๐ข๐ต๐ฆ๐ญ๐บ ๐ญ๐ฐ๐ด๐ต ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐ฎ๐ข๐ต๐ค๐ฉ ๐ฃ๐บ ๐ข ๐ฎ๐ข๐ณ๐จ๐ช๐ฏ ๐ฐ๐ง 6 ๐ณ๐ถ๐ฏ๐ด.
Saturday was a different story for the u/13 team, as they bowled first and their bowlers demonstrated outstanding skill. ๐๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ป๐ฎ๐ป ๐๐ฎ๐ณ๐๐ฎ emerged as a brilliant performer, taking four wickets, while the team bowled Kingswood out for a score of 115. In reply, Union chased down the target with 7 wickets down. ๐๐ผ๐ต๐ป ๐๐ฒ๐ป๐ฟ๐ ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด anchored the innings with a well-played 33 that ensured ๐จ๐ป๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐ฐ๐น๐ฎ๐ถ๐บ๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ฎ ๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ ๐ฏ๐ ๐ฏ ๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐ธ๐ฒ๐๐.
Union High School, Graaff-Reinet’s Grade 10 learners embarked on their highly anticipated annual ๐ข๐๐ฌ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐๐ฌ today, Thursday, 21 September.
With spirits high and an early start from De Toren, Nieu-Bethesda, they dove headfirst into this 5-day hiking adventure.

On Wednesday afternoon, 20 September, Union High School, Graaff-Reinet was excited to welcome Marlow Agricultural High School’s 1st XI to our campus for a cricket match.

When it was Union’s turn to bat, the boys wasted no time in achieving their target of 51 runs. Yaseen Kazi and Makukhanye de Beer, the team’s openers, surpassed the required score in the 8th over.

This past Friday morning, Union High School, Graaff-Reinet‘s Accounting learners had the opportunity to gain valuable insights into the world of accountancy from Ralie Blignaut, auditor at Gerber, Botha & Gowar Chartered Accountants.

Not only did she provide valuable information about the profession, but she also shared her experiences attending the recent #Xerocon conference in Sydney, Australia. The learners were thrilled to hear about the conference and the exciting developments in the field of accountancy discussed there.

Union High School, Graaff-Reinet’s hockey girls had an amazing day at Hoรซr Volkskool Graaff-Reinet‘s 8-a-side tournament on Saturday, 9 September.
The team, consisting of talented players from Grades 7 to 11, made us exceptionally proud, securing victories in all their matches.
