Eleven Union High School swimmers participated in the 98th annual ๐ฅ๐๐ฉ๐๐ฅ ๐ ๐๐๐ at the Sundays River Cannonville Slipway this past Sunday morning, 27 February, joining hundreds of other swimmers who competed in this year’s edition of Africa’s oldest open-water swimming event.
The results are as follows:
โข ๐๐ฒ๐ป ๐๐ฒ๐บ๐ธ๐ฒ came 7th in the Boys 13 & Under age group with his time of 22:49 minutes (53rd place overall).
โข The 14 to 29 Years age group saw ๐๐ ๐๐ถ๐ฒ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ป๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ด coming in 45th, ๐ ๐ฎ๐
๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฒ 48th and ๐๐๐น๐ฎ๐ป ๐ฃ๐ฒ๐๐ถ๐๐ 51st.
โข ๐ ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ผ๐น๐ถ ๐ฉ๐ผ๐ฟ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฟ and ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฎ ๐๐ผ๐ฝ๐ฒ๐บ๐ฎ๐ป, who both competed in their very first River Mile in the Girls 13 & Under age group, swam very well, with Mecoli coming in 13th with a time of 24:22 minutes and Rebecca coming in 16th with her time of 26:54 minutes.
โข The 14 to 29 Years age group saw ๐๐ฎ๐ป๐ป๐ฎ๐ต ๐๐ผ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐๐ฒ๐ถ๐ป and ๐๐ฒ๐ป๐ฑ๐ฎ๐น๐น ๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐ด๐ฒ crossing the finish line together, in what was their very last River Mile for Union. They claimed the 27th and 28th spot, respectively, in the 25th minute. ๐ง๐๐ฟ๐ฎ ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ป๐ฒ๐, ๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐ด๐ฒ๐๐๐ฒ ๐ข๐ฒ๐น๐ผ๐ณ๐๐ฒ๐ป and ๐๐น๐ฒ๐
๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ๐ฟ๐ฎ ๐๐บ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฒ finished shortly after, coming in 34th, 35th and 36th, respectively.

Of course, a River Mile outing wouldnโt be complete without a visit to the Nanaga Farm Stall, where the learners and accompanying members of staff enjoyed the tasty home-made pies and roosterkoek on offer, before hitting the long road home.
