At the Dr Beyers Naudรฉ Local Municipality’s ๐ ๐ฎ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐น ๐ง๐ผ๐ฝ ๐๐ฐ๐ต๐ถ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ ๐ฎ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฑ ๐ฐ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐บ๐ผ๐ป๐ held at the Drostdy Hotel on Wednesday, 22 January, Union High School’s top matric candidate from the 2024 NSC examinations, Joy Merifield, addressed an audience of fellow top achievers, parents, politicians and officials from both the municipality and the Department of Education.
During the ceremony, the ๐ง๐ผ๐ฝ ๐ฏ ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ๐ ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐บ๐๐ป๐ถ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐น๐ถ๐๐ were announced: Union’s Na’eem Mahomed secured 3rd place, Adriaan Blignaut from Volkskool took 2nd place and Joy Merrifield, also from Union, proudly claimed 1st place.
The annual assembly to acknowledge the learners who had attained ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐ฆ๐จ๐๐๐๐ฆ๐ฆ๐๐ฆ during the course of last year was held today, Friday, 17 January.

At Union High School, Graaff-Reinetโs Academic Awards Assembly on Friday morning, 20 January, the sought-after ๐ช๐๐๐ง๐ ๐๐๐๐ญ๐๐ฅ was presented to Unionโs 2023 Head Girl, Caitrin Spence.

It is no small feat to reach this level of academic achievement. Caitrin, however, brings the goal of excellence to all her endeavours, and while sheโs involved in all aspects of life at Union, she demonstrates an unwavering focus on her studies in particular, which has allowed her to reach this level of success.
Caitrin becomes the 5th Unionite to receive this award since its inception in 2004 when it was awarded for the very first time to Carl Bezuidenhout. Since then, the three other Unionites who have enjoyed the privilege of donning the white blazer, consists of Sulette Damons (Class of 2007), Kelsey Minnaar (Class of 2016) and Lynne Mugglestone (Class of 2007).

At Union High Schoolโs recent prizegiving ceremony, the ๐ง๐ข๐ฃ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ฉ๐๐ฅ๐ฆ in each grade were acknowledged for excellence during the academic school year.
The learners who claimed the top spot in each respective grade, are as follows: (left to right) Erin Gedult (1st on Year Grade 8 ), Katelyn Trollip (1st On Year Grade 7), Caitrin Spence (1st on Year Grade 10), James Rose-Innes (1st on Year Grade 12), Matthew Basson (1st on Year Grade 11), Naโeem Mohammad (1st on Year Grade 9), Anna Stocks (1st On Year Grade 6) and Antonia Adams (1st on year Grade 5).
On Friday morning, 16 April, Union High School’s Grade 9, 10, 11 and 12 learners attended an Elevate Education study skills coaching session.
These sessions, presented by energetic study skills facilitators, are aimed at developing a child’s study techniques in Time Management, Motivation, Growth Mindset, Stress Management and Exams and endeavours to reshape a child’s attitude towards studying and forge new habits that are modelled on the very habits used by past top students.
