1ST XI vs Framesby

18 January: T20 vs Framesby

Union won the toss and elected to bat first and struggled to get the scoreboard ticking over through the loss of regular wickets. After being put under pressure with good accurate bowling Union only managed to score 82 runs in their 20 overs.

Best batsmen: Zusakhe Ngwane 20;  Brett Amsterdam 15;  James Pienaar 15

Framesby came in to bat and Union had them struggling at 17 for 3, however we struggled with our consistency with the ball and were unable to keep them under pressure which allowed Framesby to reach their target with 6 wickets down.

Best bowlers: Lihle Mxhunyelwa 3 for 16 in 4 overs;  Trevor Moss 2 for 20 in 2 overs;  Luke Mc Naughton 1 for 14 in 3 overs

Union lost the match by 4 wickets

Saturday, 19 January: 50 over match vs Framesby

Framesby won the toss and elected to bat first. Once again we struggled with our consistency in line and length and allowed Framesby to score freely and in the end managed to score 245 in their 50 overs.

Best bowlers: Lunga Zantsi 2 for 29 in 7 overs;  Trevor Moss 2 for 39 in 10 overs;  Brett Amsterdam 1 for 32 in 10 overs

Union went in to bat and did well to see off the new ball but unfortunately could not kick on and lost four quick wickets. It was then that Luke Mc Naughton and Bowen Langmead took the game by the scruff of the neck and put together an outstanding mature 150 run partnership and placed Union in a position that seemed set to take us over the line. We were unfortunately unable to capitalize on this wonderful partnership and were bowled out for 206.

Best batsmen: Luke Mc Naughton 83;  Bowen Langmead 53;  Union lost the match by 39 runs.

2nd Team vs Framesby

On Saturday our second cricket team travelled to Port Elizabeth to play against Framesby in a 40 over match. Framesby won the toss and elected to bat first.

The Union bowlers struggled to find their rhythm and conceded way too many extras to apply any pressure of sorts. Framesby scored 208 for 3 in their alotted 40 overs.

Union got bowled out for 77 in 21.4 overs. The only batsmen that showed a bit of resistance was MJ Newton who scored an entertaining 29 not out and Khanya Butshingi 12.

Union lost the game by 131 runs.

U/15A vs Framesby

19 January:  T20 vs Framesby

Union won the toss and sent Framesby in to bat. Framesby scored 106/8 in 20 overs.  Best bowlers: Laythan Carelse 3 for 12 in 4 overs;  Rhuze Hendricks 2 for 29 in 3 overs;  Ivan Murray 2 for 4 in 1 over;  Daniel Nel 1 for 15 in 4 overs.

Union went in to bat and were bowled out for 95.  Best batsmen: Sisipho Arnolds 28;  Jude Langmead 26 not out;  Hlaki Skepe 14.

Union lost the match by 11 runs.

20 January:  50 over match vs Framesby

Framesby won the toss and elected to bat first and scored 250 all out in 49.3 overs.

Best bowlers: Hlaki Skepe 3 for 51 in 10 overs;  Rhuze Hendricks 2 for 28 in 5 overs;  Union went in to bat and were bowled out for 144.

Best batsmen: Hlaki Skepe 26;  Sisipho Arnolds 21;  Brent Hesselink 14;  Ivan Murray 14.

Union lost the match by 106 runs.

 

 

 

 

Cricket Results

UHS 2nd Cricket vs Middelburg 1st

Middelburg won the toss electing to bat, we were bowled out in the 16th over for 78.

Bowling:  William Kayster 3 for 14 in 3 overs;  Jarrod Naudé 2 for 7 in 2.4 overs;  Lunga Zantsi 2 for 7 in 4 overs;  Matthew Hesselink 2 for 19 in 3 overs.

Josh Calitz took an excellent catch at mid on.

Batting:  James Pringle 36 not out opened the batting with Matthew Hesselink, who made 22 were in an opening partnership of 52.

Union won by 8 wickets in the 9th over.

U13A Cricket vs Volkskool

On Wednesday our u13A boys played a 20 over match against Volkskool. We we’re sent in to bat first and got off to a great start, unfortunately we soon started loosing wickets due to a lack of patience and experience ending our innings on 91 after 20 overs. Our opening bowlers put Volkskool under pressure and were soon rewarded with early wickets, we struggled to keep the momentum up and allowed Volkskool to reach 60 runs all out winning by 32 runs.

This is a very talented group of boys that can reach tremendous heights if they work hard and stay committed.

U11A – won by 7 wickets.

13th Mica Cricket Festival

From 3-5 January our 1st XI participated in the 13th Annual Mica UHS Cricket Festival.

In spite of it being so early in the year, the teams played with great enthusiasm and in great spirit, which made for a very enjoyable week of cricket.

We started the week with a declaration match against Daniel Pienaar who won the toss and elected to bat. UHS started off with some wonderful disciplined bowling and never allowed the opposition to score freely. A magnificent individual performance with the ball from Brett Amsterdam helped restrict and bowl Daniel Pienaar out for 187. Bowling figures: Brett Amsterdam 6 for 32, Luke McNaughton 2 for 27, Caerwyn Spence 2 for 53.

UHS went in to bat and through an outstanding mature innings by Jaden Brotherton, who held the innings together allowing his team mates to bat around him, we managed to pass the target with 8 wickets down. Union won the match by 2 wickets.  Batting performance: Jaden Brotherton 113 n.o., Kyle-Luke Du Preez 20, Luke Mc Naughton 19.

In an exciting declaration match against Daniel Pienaar, Union achieved a first innings win by passing the set target of 198 in the final over. Congratulations to Jaden Brotherton who made 114 not out and Brett Amsterdam who took 6 wickets!

On Friday a 50over match was played against Queen’s College and on the back of a fine batting performance UHS won the toss and elected to bat first. Unfortunately, we were unable to carry on where we left off and struggled against good accurate bowling and were bowled out for 91.  Batting performance: Luke McNaughton 20, Zusakhe Ngwane 18.  Queen’s were able to reach their target with 3 wickets down.  Union lost the match by 7 wickets.  Bowling figures: Luke Mc Naughton 1 for 20, Brett Amsterdam 1 for 18.

On the Saturday we played a T20 match against Despatch. UHS won the toss and elected to bowl. We started off with a bang taking a wicket with the first ball through a magnificent diving catch which set the tone for a wonderful bowling and fielding performance and restricted Despatch to 115. Bowling figures: Luke McNaughton 2 for 10, James Pienaar 2  for 15, Caerwyn Spence 2 for 20.

Union came in to bat and managed to keep a good steady run rate in pursuit of their target, including a wonderful 50-run partnership between Brett Amsterdam and Bowen Langmead. Unfortunately, we were unable to take advantage of this good start and ended up short of our target. UHS lost the match by 9 runs.  Batting performances: Brett Amsterdam 34, Bowen Langmead 32.

U/12 Karoo Cricket

We wish to congratulate the following Union boys on their selection to the Karoo U/12 cricket team.  They will be taking part in the U/12  Rural Cricket Festival in Cradock from 30 November – 2 December 2018.

Junior Cricket vs Westering

This weekend our u13 cricket boys played their last two matches of the season against Westering Primary from Port Elizabeth.

Friday (T20)

After winning the toss we selected to bat first against a strong bowling attack. Our batsmen did well under pressure, but struggled to get runs on the board ending our innings on 63/7. Unfortunately our bowlers could not restrict Westering and they chased down out score with 8 wickets in hand.

Saturday (50 overs)

On Saturday we were asked to bowl first and even though this was one of our best bowling and fielding displays all year, Westering managed to score 327 in their 50 overs. Our batsmen did their best in unfavourable conditions, but could only reach 67 all out, losing with 260 runs.

Jnr Cricket vs Gill Primary

On Tuesday our u13 cricket team played a T20 match against Gill Primary in Somerset East. We were asked to bowl first and struggled to hit our target, allowing Gill to reach 129 runs in 20 overs. Our batsmen replied with a disciplined run chase constantly rotating the strike and putting away the bad deliveries, helping us to reach our target with 4 overs to spare.
Union won by 7 wickets.

U/13A Cricket vs Summerwood

U13A Cricket vs Summerwood

This weekend our u13 cricket team played two matches against Summerwood from Port Elizabeth. On both occations our boys played well, but struggled to show disspline when bowling and fielding. This allowed our opponents to score freely and ultimately kept us out of the game. A total of 97 extras were bowled and 7 catches dropped in two days.

Friday: Union lost by 44 runs.
Saturday: Union lost by 71 runs.


Congratulations to Brent Hesselink for scoring 51 in this matches against Summerwood today.

Junior Cricket vs LVS

On Wednesday our U/13 boys played an intense cricket match against Laer Volkskool. In blistering heat the Union boys were sent in to bowl and through some laziness in the field allowed Volkskool to reach 129 after 20 overs. The Union team regathered after the break and hit back by putting Volkskool’s bowlers under pressure. Union managed to score freely and reached their target in the 16th over. Winning by 6 wickets.

EP U/17 Inland Cricket

We congratulate the following Union cricketers for being selected for the Eastern Province U/17 Inland Team, who will be attending the National Week Tournament in Kimberley from 10 to 14 December.

U/13A vs Lorraine

Over the weekend our u13 Cricket team competed against Lorraine in two matches over the Friday and Saturday. Both games where played in Great Spirit and our boys gained a lot of experience playing against strong opposition.
