Jnr Hockey – Lorraine Festival

On Saturday our 1st junior hockey girls travelled to port Elizabeth to participate in the Lorraine Tri-sports festival. The girls played three matches in wet and miserable conditions, but performed very well over- all. In the first game we played against Outeniqua Primary from George. The girls took some time to get into the game after the drive and went down 1-0 very quickly. This proved to be the necessary wake-up call and the girls, while not managing to equalise, limited the score-line to that.

After re-grouping between games, the girls bounced back with 2 fantastic wins. They beat Charlo by 2 goals to 1, with goals coming from Soso Mroro and Chloe Erasmus. Our best performance of the day was undoubtedly against Herbert Hurd who thrashed us last year. The girls played a lovely attacking game with some beautiful passing to end the day with a 4-0 victory. Goals were scored by Soso Mroro (2), Chloe Erasmus and Xarah Hoffman.

Snr Hockey: EP Opening Festival

This past weekend saw our 1st hockey girls travel to PE to take part in the EP opening festival.

We came up against tough opposition, but the girls were equal to the task. Our 1st encounter was against Woodridge. An early goal by Micela Loock put Union ahead, but a lack of concentration saw Woodridge equalise later in the game. The match ended 1-1. We went on to beat Framesby in our 2nd match 1-0 to close off day 1 of play. Our start to day two saw a very tough game to the strong Kingswood girls resulting in an unfortunate 2-0 defeat, although we had our chances. A good recovery resulted in a us beating Westering 4-0 to end the weekend on a real high. The girls played an attractive brand of hockey throughout the 2 days and should be very proud of their performances.

Goals by the following:
Micela Loock – 2
Jenna McNaughton – 2
Laetitia Theron – 1
Rosslyn Sparks – 1

Hockey Results: 1st match of season

Union 1st hockey girls travelled to Gill College on the 23 February to participate in their annual Sports day.

The girls arrived with a positive attitude and only 1 goal in mind, to leave with 2 victories. With only 25 minutes per game to prove our skill and determination, we entered our 1st encounter against Nico Malan first team, which saw the girls come out as 2-0 victors. They stuck to the game plan and the 1st box was ticked. Nico Malan must be commended on keeping Union honest as they had a few chances, which were kept out by our goalkeeper, Sakhe Booi. We then met Volkskool’s 2nd team in our 2nd fixture of the day and came out as comfortable winners, winning 9 goals to nothing. Goals by captain, Jenna McNaughton – 4, Micela Loock – 2 and 1 a piece for Rosslyn Sparks, Marchѐ Green and Henzѐ Japhta.
