๐๐ข๐ก๐๐ฅ๐๐ง๐จ๐๐๐ง๐๐ข๐ก๐ฆ to Union High School, Graaff-Reinet’s u/13A hockey team on their successful participation in the Elsie Coetzer Hockey School (ECHS) coaching tournament held in Bloemfontein from 14 to 16 July.
The team triumphed over Pretoria’s Anton van Wouwโs u/12A side with an impressive 5-0 victory in their first match.
Their next match against Schweizer-Reneke (which they lost 1-7), may not have ended in their favour, but their resilience and never-give-up attitude for the rest of the tournament were truly commendable and resulted in them securing victories in all of their remaining matches.
They triumphed over Oranje Primary School’s u/12A’s with a hard-fought 1-0 win, showcasing their ability to excel under pressure. The girls continued to dominate the field, securing a convincing 4-0 victory against ECHS JD, a 2-0 win against Oranje Primary School’s u/13B’s, and another well-deserved 4-0 victory against Lumiere Primary School.
The girls also enjoyed several coaching sessions conducted by the ECHS coaches throughout the weekend, which provided valuable insights, correct technique, and personalized feedback, helping players refine their skills and improve their overall game.
Despite Union’s valiant efforts, Graeme College owned the field, winning nine out of the derby’s ten contests, with their 1st XV concluding the day’s play with a 43-3 victory.
Union’s u/11A team, however, was the shining highlight of the day, winning 26-10. Kudos to all the u/11 players who fearlessly endured bruises by taking big tackles.
Unfortunately, Union High School’s other teams didn’t achieve the same level of success.
We’d like to give a round of applause to Union High School, Graaff-Reinet’s senior hockey girls for their performance against Queenstown Girls’ High School on Youth Day!
Special mention must be made of Union’s 1st team and the u/16A team who both secured 2-0 victories against their respective counterparts.
The rest of the results saw our 2nd team lose 1-0, the u/16B team draw 0-0 and the u/14A team lose 0-3.
