Jnr Tennis vs Gill Primary

On Monday the 18th of February the top 6 Junior boys and girls enjoyed a wonderful afternoon’s tennis against Gill Primary. The boys matches were tightly contested with Union losing 3 matches to 4. Special mention must be made of Peter-Daniel Clegg who won both his singles and doubles matches.
The girls did well to win by 9 matches to 0.

Snr Tennis

On Saturday our Top 12 Tennis girls travelled to Queenstown to participate in our annual tennis match against GHS. This time round Girls’ High had a very strong team and our girls had to give of their best in most of their matches. Although we beat them by 11 sets to 7, most of the.games were decided by tie-breakers. Well done to Jeanne-Marie Brummer, Lauren Rose-Innes, Tayla Kingwill, Anna Pringle, Leah Marais and Musa Kedamile for winning both their singles and doubles matches.

The girls beat both VG and Kingswood by 12 matches to 0, with only DSG providing any opposition. UHS won this clash by 7 matches to 5, winning the overall title by 2 matches. Special mention must be made of Micela Loock (number1) and Christine Harris (number 3) who were unbeaten on the day in both their singles and doubles matches. The UHS boys who were competing for the Settlers cup, played tenacious tennis against strong opposition all day. While some individual matches were very closely contested, their fighting spirit saw them beating Graeme College by 10 matches to 2 and Kingswood, 9-3. Going into the final round, St Andrews were one match ahead of us. Losing 3 of the singles matches in tie-breakers, the boys fought hard but were beaten on the day by 8 matches to 4.St Andrews beat us into second place by 5 matches overall. Junior Tennis

Our top four girls and boys represented Union in the annual Jocelyn Marais Invitational Tennis Tournament organised by MatchPoint Tennis on Friday and Saturday.

Although we played against very strong teams, our players rose to the challenge and played very good tennis. It was a great experience and the players certainly benefitted from exposure to tennis of such a high standard.

Well done to all the players on an excellent tournament. Our girls ended in fifth place and the boys seventh.

Jnr Tennis vs Gill Primary

The boys lost 4-5 to a very motivated Gill side. Our players sold themselves short and failed to capitalize on important points. Special mention must be made of Finn and Chuma, playing at couple number 3, who managed to beat Gill’s first couple.

The Girls won 5 matches to 4. Gemma and Sade played well at couple number 3, winning the deciding match against a strong 2nd couple from Gill.

Well done to all.
